Las Vegas police adjust immigration enforcement under new federal law
Following the enactment of the Laken Riley Act, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) has expanded its policy to notify Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) when undocumented immigrants are arrested for additional offenses, including burglary, theft, larceny, and assault on a police officer. Previously, notifications were limited to violent crimes, DUI, and domestic violence. This change aligns with the new federal mandate, which requires local law enforcement to inform ICE of such arrests.
